Richard A. Roberts, Esq. Biography
Richard A. Roberts, Esq. was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1984. Since launching his private practice early in his legal career, his goal has been to provide affordable legal services to the Southern Westchester and Northern Bronx Communities. Roberts’ law practice is focused on people problems. He tackles criminal law, family law, wills, bankruptcy law, and, real estate all with a personal touch. Roberts believes that high cost should not be an obstacle to quality legal representation. Born and raised in White Plains, New York and having an office in Mount Vernon since 1986, he has a very long and strong connection to the community he serves. Roberts is an active member of many local and national legal associations including the New York State Bar Association, the Association of Black Lawyers of Westchester, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the New York State Defenders Association, and, the American Prepaid Legal Services Institute. He’s admitted to practice Law in all of the courts of New York State, the Federal Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has served as an arbitrator in both White Plains City Court and Mount Vernon City Court. Roberts also serves many other civic and community organizations. He is a member of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club, and served as president from 1999 to 2001; he was appointed an Assistant District Governor for Rotary district 7230 from 2001 to 2002; and, he is a member of Omega Phi Psi fraternity. Roberts also sits on the board of the Beta Alpha Alpha Foundation, a not-for-profit scholarship granting organization. He is on the board of directors of Community Service Associate which operates a soup kitchen in Mount Vernon. He is also a member of the Institutional Review Board of Mount Vernon Hospital and formerly a member of the board of directors of the Mount Vernon Police Athletic League. In addition to his volunteer leadership within many professional associations, He was an adjunct professor teaching business law at Pace University 1984-1985 and at Mercy College in 1999. He has also operated a successful real estate investment business involving residential rentals since 1979. Roberts earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, New York in 1983, his M.B.A. from Iona College in 1979 and his B.S. from American International College in 1975.
